For this special Thanksgiving edition of the “Embracing Gratitude and Positivity” blog, I’m taking a look at some of the things that make people thankful.
For me, what comes to mind first are probably the same sources of gratitude many would mention: family, friends, the necessities of life, nature, and stable health. This year in particular, I’m grateful for the ability to start and complete a book.
I recently conducted an unscientific poll on Facebook, asking people what they are most grateful for. I received a lot of good responses. Below is a sampling of the replies.
“The sacrifices my parents made to give me, and my siblings, the education we needed, including college, that opened doors for me.”
“My wife, who has centered, anchored, and provided advice when I most needed it—not to mention putting up with me.”
“My own perseverance that got me through against incredible odds, both in my personal as well as professional trajectory.”
“That I have the opportunity to spend time with my grandchildren and watch them do activities they love.”
“Family, friends, [being] painless.”
“Love. I’m thankful for all the forms of love: family, friends, children, kind strangers, leaders who strive for good, animals that love unconditionally…love.”
“The air, eyesight, ability to walk and talk.”
“When my family and friends are happy and healthy.”
“Faith, family, friends, sunshine, trees, meditation, health, breath, the sound of birds, wind, crickets.”
“Indoor plumbing, Advil, cars. firefighters, cats, gut feelings, math and knowledge, fuzzy sockies, my memory, antibiotics, AC and heat, palm trees.”
“My life.”
“Being alive. Being me. Having the gift to create art and to write. Passion and curiosity guiding me everywhere so life is never not interesting.”
As you celebrate Thanksgiving Day, I hope these thoughtful responses will help inspire you to think of some things you are thankful for.
