Hawaii Volcanoes National Park

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, located on the Big Island of Hawaii, features active volcanoes Kilauea and Mauna Loa. Among the highlights are the Kilauea Iki Crater, Thurston Lava Tube and black sand beaches (shown in some of the photos below).

This photo collection also includes pictures from other areas on the Big Island as well as the island of Oahu. I’ve been fortunate to be able to visit the Hawaiian Islands a number of times, and I’m always struck not only by the magnificence of the scenery, but by the welcoming nature of the people who live there.

Great photos, Bob. If you’re curious, the large white bird is a cattle egret. The smaller dark bird is a white-rumped shama — had to look that one up.

Thanks! And I appreciate the IDs of the birds. We saw several of the egrets on the trip. The other was at a botanical garden.

Thanks, Steve. I could definitely see living there–at least for part of the year. The view of Honolulu/Waikiki/Diamond Head Head from the water was amazing!
